Fulltime RV Family: Back on Track
After being sidelined from RV life for a few weeks, we’re back on track!
If you read my last post, you saw the ridiculous amount of issues we had with the RV we purchased, but that we also ended up with the perfect RV for our family! We moved into the new one the same day we traded the old one and have been in it ever since. While we were excited about the new one, we didn’t jump into it simply out of excitement. We just had trust issues plus a short amount of time to make sure we weren’t sold a defective camper again.
We researched our dealership’s policy on returns which states that there is a 72 hour window in which the purchaser can return an RV that doesn’t work for them. So we took the new RV to the closest campground we could find (literally within 1 mile of the dealership) to test out the new rig before taking it out of town. Dave only had a 35 minute commute that week, so it worked well with his schedule to stay close and make sure we didn’t run into any issues.
The new RV has been working great so far! It has so much more storage than the last one and the girls have their own bunk room that we could put a pack-n-play in right underneath Payton’s top bunk. If this RV had been on the lot during our initial search, it definitely would have been our first choice. While we didn’t love the process and the stress of losing money with the first RV, we are SO SO SO grateful that we ended up with a camper that we’ll be much happier in long-term.
All of that said…
If you’re looking to buy an RV, here are some things I would recommend asking the dealership to do for you in your final walkthrough.
Fill the fresh water tank and make sure the water runs and pump works (you should probably let them know ahead of time so they have time to fill up the tank)
Put water in the water heater and make sure you have hot water in each faucet
Look at the battery and make sure it looks new - not dirty or rusty
Put the slide out and in, at least one time each to make sure mechanisms work smoothly
Test out extending and retracting the awning
Test the indoor and outdoor speakers, connect to bluetooth if applicable
Take down dinette table and make it into a bed - make sure everything fits well
Test out stove, oven, and grill to make sure propane is connected and full
This is not an exhaustive list of things to check over but just the things we made sure to look at during our final walk through with the new RV.
If you have any other suggestions on what to look at during the walk-through, comment below!
